African Woman

Advertisers

Over the years, African Woman has built up a following of loyal regular advertisers based in Uganda and Kenya, who have realised the value of associating with African Woman.

According to a survey in 2008 by the Steadman Group, African Woman is the woman’s magazine with the highest awareness among the sample interviewed (and second-highest awareness of all magazines, trailing the leader - a specialist soccer magazine - by only 1%).

The industry categories represented by regular advertisers include banking, telecommunications, travel, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and beauty, home, food and beverages and retail institutions.

Expansion by African Woman into the Kenyan market means that many more East African companies will be in a position to take up the offer to advertise in this proven and cost-effective medium for communicating with their target audiences.

Who reads African Woman?

The magazine is aimed at women in the age bracket 18 – 55. Though the core readership is the intended range, reliable feedback suggests that the readership profile spans a much wider range, from early teens to late middle age.

Though readers’ economic status ranges from urban affluent to rural poor, most magazines are purchased by people in the ABC1 economic bracket. Feedback from focus groups and readers’ letters indicates that, perhaps surprisingly, a large number of men also buy and read the magazine.

Readers are very loyal, as shown by the Steadman survey as well as the large volume of feedback received.

This is underscored by the absence of negative comments in this feedback and the fact that back issues are extremely popular: readers wish to own a full set of all the issues. Information received from readers suggest that each issue has an exceptionally long lifespan, with each copy read by more than 30 people, and for years after publication!
